Guarding the Family
There has been so much in the world this week that feels heavy.
Moments that remind us how quickly things can escalate… how deeply people can disagree… and how easily those disagreements can begin to touch the places closest to home.
I come from a time when families didn’t always agree on everything—politics, religion, opinions—but somehow, the table remained.
We still sat together.
We still cared for one another.
We still knew that relationship mattered more than being right.
Lately, that feels harder for many.
It’s easy to carry the noise of the world into our homes… to let strong opinions turn into distance… or even silence.
But Scripture gives us a quiet and steady reminder:
1 Corinthians 13:2
“…if I have all knowledge… but do not have love, I am nothing.”
We can be informed.
We can be passionate.
We can even be right.
But if we lose gentleness with one another…
If we stop listening…
If we forget the value of the people sitting across from us…
Then something far more important is lost.
Guarding the family doesn’t mean we stop thinking or stop caring about what we believe.
It means we choose how those beliefs are carried into our homes.
With patience.
With humility.
With love that holds steady, even when opinions do not.
Because in the end, it won’t be the arguments we remember most…
It will be whether the table was still a place of peace.

If this kind of quiet moment speaks to you, you’re always welcome at Rosemary Thyme. ![]()
