What is one meal from your childhood that you still remember because of the people who were sitting around the table?
There are so many things today competing for our attention.
The television is on. Phones are buzzing. Schedules are full. Sometimes everyone eats at a different time, in a different room, or on the way to the next activity.
Life has become busy.
And yet…
Dennis and I still try to sit down together whenever we can.
Not because our meals are perfect.
Not because every dinner is homemade.
Not because we have something fancy to serve.
We do it because there is something quietly meaningful about sharing a table.
It is often during those simple meals that we talk about our day, laugh over something that happened, make plans for tomorrow, or simply enjoy a few peaceful moments together before life becomes busy again.
The meal itself is soon forgotten.
The conversation often isn’t.
Long after the recipes have faded from memory, we remember who sat beside us.
A family table doesn’t have to be fancy.
It can be soup in simple bowls.
A grilled cheese sandwich on a rainy afternoon.
Breakfast on a Saturday morning.
Or leftovers after a long day.
The table has never been about impressing anyone.
It’s about making room for one another.
The table is still worth setting… whether it’s for a house full of family, a dear friend, a table for two, or a quiet meal for one. Every place at the table has value because every person matters.
Perhaps that’s one of the reasons I started Rosemary Thyme.
Yes, I love sharing recipes.
But even more than recipes, I hope to encourage something that feels increasingly rare…
A peaceful home.
