The Strength To Choose Kindness
There is something you come to understand, if you live long enough and pay attention.
Kindness and cruelty do not come from the same place.
Cruelty often comes from something unsettled…
from insecurity, from hurt, from a need to push outward what feels unsteady within.
It can be loud. It can feel sharp.
But it is not strength.
True strength is quieter than that.
Kindness comes from steadiness.
From a heart that no longer needs to prove itself.
From a place that is anchored, not shaken by every passing moment.
I have seen something else too.
Those who are quick to give harsh words often struggle the most when even a small unkindness comes their way.
Because what is given outward is often what is felt within.
And still… we are given a choice.
To echo what is harsh…
or to answer it with something better.
There were seasons when kindness felt costly… when it would have been easier to harden. But we’ve learned that choosing gentleness in a harsh moment isn’t weakness—it’s a quiet kind of strength that holds steady.
Scripture reminds us of a steady way forward—
not returning harm for harm,
but choosing what is good, even when it is not returned.
That is not weakness.
That is strength.
Today, may we choose the quiet strength of kindness.
