Eyes Open Heart Open

🌿 Sunday Reflection — Eyes Open, Heart Open

ā€œAll good giving and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights.ā€
— James 1:17

This morning, I am reflecting on the gifts God brings into our lives—sometimes quietly, sometimes unexpectedly, and sometimes in ways that leave us overwhelmed with gratitude.

This past week brought an unexpected blessing that touched my heart deeply. Some gifts are too personal to describe fully, but we can still share the gratitude they leave behind. It was a beautiful reminder that God knows the prayers we carry quietly and the hopes we hold close.

I believe His providence is at work in our lives, even when we cannot see where the path is leading.

Then came Dennis’s surgery. Watching him come through it so well and seeing him get a little better each day has given me another reason to pause and thank God. Even amid the tiredness and the work of caring for someone you love, there is so much to be grateful for.

James 1:17 reminds us that every good gift comes from above. This week, those words feel especially close to my heart.

Sometimes we move through our days so busy with responsibilities, worries, and plans that we forget to notice the blessings already beside us. A kindness we needed. An unexpected moment of joy. Another step toward healing. The comfort of being home together.

Faith does not mean we always understand God’s timing. There are prayers we carry for years and circumstances we cannot change on our own. But we can keep praying, keep loving, and keep our hearts open to the gifts each day may bring.

Today, I am thankful for healing, for hope, and for blessings I hold quietly in my heart. I do not know what every tomorrow will bring, but I want to receive today’s gifts with gratitude and care.

Perhaps that is our invitation this Sunday: to slow down, look around, and notice the blessings we might otherwise pass by.

Keep your eyes open and your heart open. There is goodness to recognize, even in an ordinary day.

šŸ™ Heavenly Father, thank You for the gifts I recognize and those I overlook. Give me eyes to notice Your goodness, patience to trust Your timing, and a heart ready to receive and share Your love. Help me cherish the people in my life and never take their presence for granted. Amen.

A Mind That Still Wonders

A Mind That Still Wonders

There is a quiet gratitude I have come to recognize in this season of life.

The ability to sit, to think, to reflect…

to take a thought and gently follow it,

to shape it into something meaningful…

is a gift.

One I do not take lightly.

In my own family, I have seen what it means when that gift begins to fade.

My mother walked through Parkinson’s, and later dementia,

and so did several of her sisters.

I have seen what it looks like when thoughts become harder to gather,

when words don’t come as easily,

when the mind that once held so much… begins to let go.

And if I am honest…

that has been one of my deepest fears.

To lose the ability to contemplate…

to organize a thought…

to make meaning of what I experience.

But today, I find myself in a different place.

Not in fear…

but in gratitude.

Grateful that I can still sit quietly and think.

Grateful that I can still put words to what I feel.

Grateful that I can still reflect on my faith, my life, and the many seasons that have shaped me.

In many ways, this is part of why I began Rosemary Thyme.

Not just to share recipes or images of a cozy home…

but to stay connected,

to live my faith more intentionally,

and to keep my mind engaged… and my heart open.

There is something deeply peaceful in using what we have…

while we have it.

Not striving.

Not rushing.

Just gently tending to the gifts we’ve been given.

ā€œEven to your old age and gray hairs I am He, I am He who will sustain you.ā€ — Isaiah 46:4

Today, I thank God for a mind that still wonders…

and a heart that still finds meaning in the quiet moments.

And I pray that I continue to use both…

with gratitude.
